This 6-hour, mixed level course is for medical and mental health providers who would like to learn core competencies on how to best provide affirming and culturally sensitive mental health care to transgender and gender nonconforming clients, as well as stay up-to-date on current practices in medical care and the role of the mental health provider. Beginners or those with less knowledge about gender diversity will leave with a basic competency in how to provide culturally affirming care. Those with more advanced knowledge will build their knowledge, skills, and awareness in order to move towards specialization. Information will be presented in a multicultural, intersectional, systems-based framework.
