TGNC Guidelines Are Now APA Policy
APA council has just approved the Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming People. I had the honor of being part of the Task Force who created these guidelines. The guidelines are now officially APA policy.
There are 16 guidelines, each with a rationale and an application section. There is a glossary of terms at the end of the document that clarify how the terms were used within the document. Because this is an APA document, the guidelines are written for psychologists, but other mental health providers working with TGNC people can also use these guidelines to learn foundational knowledge, information about discrimination and systemic barriers that TGNC people face, and appropriate practice in terms of training, research, clinical work, and interdisciplinary care.
Download a PDF of the guidelines here. The guidelines will be published in the American Psychologist in the next several months.
